Why Apple released macOS Big Sur 11.5.1?

macOS Big Sur 11.5.1

Apple released 11.5 a few days ago like nearly 5 to 6 days ago. But after releasing 11.5 they somehow released Big Sur 11.5.1 on 27th July 2021. After a big public release, this type of minor upgrade from was really a surprise from Apple.

Actually they did it several times for iOS. But for macOS it's really rare. The build number was 20G71 os macOS Big Sur 11.5 but it is now 20G80 in macOS Big Sur 11.5.1. From this number it's clear that this update is a finer version of the previous one. Actually is this update there were no firmware update both for M1 or intel T2 chips.

This type of update really denotes some security issues that would be patched. So let's checkout what was mainly fixed.

This was about 3.2 GB on my M1 MacBook Pro. Yours can be vary depending on the model you have and if you are on 11.4 or earlier then it could be more than 5 GB.

This was taken from Apple’s own keynote. Actually they mentioned an application may be able to execute arbitrary security code with kernel privileges. Apple was mentioned it by a consumer and they immediately fixed this use by delivering this update.

Though they didn't mention the app or software. However some renowned website are guessing that this type was security issues or threat was created from some social media apps and their web app also.

Will you update your mac to 11.5.1?

If you are using intel mac, then absolutely. But if you are a M1 user you can wait. But i recommend to update form 11.5 to 11.5.1 as it's a security issue.
